Methods to check fuel pump timing

There are different methods to find the fuel pump timing is correct or not.

1. Hair line method or fuel pump markings
In some engines there is a window on fuel pump and on pump body there are three marking and on the plunger there is also one marking . The marking on pump body shows the start of injection and other shows the end of injection the middle one shows the unit is at TDC when the plunger marking matches with the respective one (as i found on diahatsu engine). But on some fuel pump only two marking are there
For start and end of injection. After matching any one of the marking check with the markings on flywheel , both should be matched if yes then there is no alteration in timing

2. Flash light method.                                       In this method both the deflectors of fuel punps are removed and then a flash light is used from one of the deflector  and from other end light should be seen by eyes or by using mirror when it is on base circle the starts rotating the flywheel it the light beam starts  covering up or starts dimnishing or the plunger starts distracting light means the injection starts then check the flywheel markings if matchef then there is no problem with timing.

3.      Fuel pump oil spill or spill method.

In this method the delivery valve of fuel pump is removed and pump is filled with oil and start rotating flywheel when the oil starts coming out means pump starts injecting then chk marking with flywheel to confirm.

4.  Go no go template
In this method templates are given take the unit to tdc as marking on flywheel open the deflector and put insert the template if it goes easily without any further movement that means timing is correct.                                      2.
